What Do Your Friends Do?

I was talking to a friend yesterday, and it struck me how little I know about what my friends do for a living. I only have a very vague idea of what many of my friends do. For some, I know they work for a certain company, and that's good enough. If you were to ask me what X does, I'd say that he works for so and so and that's all I'd be able to tell you.

If a friend works for an obscure company, I'd usually associate him or her with a "field," regardless of what he or she actually does in that field. I have a friend that does logistics for a fashion company, but we all just say that he's in fashion. I'm in securities lending, but I hesitate to consider myself as being in finance. I associate finance with brokering mega-deals and raking in the mega-bucks, which isn't what I'm doing at the moment.

I also realized I have some close friends that I don't know anything about in regards to what they do for work. I don't even know what industry he's in, or what field it's considered. Is it common to know what your friends do for work? Or are most people like me and just know what field or company someone works in?

Anyway, I'm battling a skin infection right now. I caught it from my bjj gym. This has really got me in a funk. I hate to say it, but my life feels really empty when I don't train. I wish I could be back at the gym, but I have to wait til this freaking infection clears up. I just feel completely lost without bjj training. It also doesn't help that I have a skin virus that is contagious. It transfers via skin to skin contact, so I have to make an effort to make as little physical contact with others as possible. Even the name of the virus sounds ugly . . . molluscum contagiosum. Yuck.
