Foot in the Mouth?
I said something the other day which really offended my friend. The context of the conversation was in regards to driving somewhere.
Friend: My dad asked me if I was going to drive there. I said no, I wasn't.
Alvin: He doesn't like you driving?
Friend: He doesn't want to put a lot of miles on the car. It's his baby.
Alvin: Fuck that, you're his baby!
My friend was very upset by my comment. His dad has been going through some very serious health issues, so I'm guessing my comment came off as very insensitive. I didn't think what I said was cold and callous, but people interpret things differently.
Is the best solution to just apologize when you unintentionally offend somebody?
Methinks so. Explaining yourself probably only makes it worse.
